During the Gold Rush Days, 1848 – 1855, the people who absolutely made the most money were not those who went to California to mine for gold – it was the people who had the foresight to supply the tools to those who were mining for gold!
To be sure, there were some who had the good fortune to “discover gold” however by and large it was the suppliers of the tools, the suppliers of the picks and shovels who were the real winners in the Gold Rush Days.
